For several years now, we have hosted a Reverse Advent food drive for Urban Mission. Why do we call it “Reverse” Advent?

Read what the scripture said about Mary and Joseph’s travel to Bethlehem just before Jesus’ birth. (Luke 2: 1-7) What would they have needed to survive during that journey? Who helped them during this time?

Reverse Advent is about giving to and praying for those persons in our community who deal daily with food insecurity. Although these families likely set aside some of their income for gifts to the children in their lives, that will mean that there is less money for food. Food resource centers are thus a vital service to these families at this giving time of the year.

We have developed a list of foods that are needed by families. Each day from November 13th to December 11th, we have a different food item that we are asking that you donate to our Reverse Advent food drive.  Place your offerings on our Mission Table in the Narthex and the Mission Committee will deliver all items to the Urban Mission Food Resource Center.
