It's that time of year!
We have two mission projects that run through Advent. First is the Angel Tree! Here’s what we ask of you: Choose an angel name tag that is hanging from the Angel Tree Christmas tree out in the narthex. Each Angel name tag has a name written on it with the age and sex of the child, as well as the apartment # that they live in. Some of the tags are for the mothers, so don’t forget them! Once you’ve selected the angel name tag, put your name on the sign-up sheet beside the child’s/mother’s name.
Next, buy a gift for that child/mom, wrap the gift and put the angel name tag on the gift! Return the gift to the church and the Mission Committee will deliver all of the gifts a few weeks before Christmas. Last day to bring your gifts to the church is December 10!
Here is our second project - Reverse Advent: This project benefits those people in the metropolitan area who have limited resources for food. We are partnering with Urban Mission Food Resource Center with this food drive. They have a very active and vital food pantry that serves the metropolitan area. Because of the support they receive from the community, they are able to provide to their clients a variety of food items: meat, non-perishable items, and produce. Urban Mission serves 250 households every Tuesday and Thursday morning in a drive-thru pantry. Our Reverse Advent project has posted one food item/day from mid-Nov to mid-December. We ask that you purchase each item (or as many as you can) and bring those items to the church. The Mission Committee will deliver all of the food to Urban Mission who anticipates a high demand before the Christmas holidays. Last day for food to be dropped off here is December 10!
