Mission Project – April 2021

You shall be called Repairers of the Breach.
From Isaiah 58: 12 (New American Standard Bible translation)

In 2021, One Great Hour of Sharing is focusing upon a passage from Isaiah 58 that takes on special meaning to us as we continue to live through COVID, to recover from the ice and cold temperatures of the past few months and to struggle with how to repair the breaches of civility within our country and indeed our world.

The Message translation of Isaiah 58: 12 says:

“You’ll use the old rubble of past lives to build anew,
rebuild the foundations from out of your past.
You’ll be known as those who can fix anything,
restore old ruins, rebuild and renovate,
    make the community livable again.”

This past year has been a time when we yearn to connect with others, when we pray for health and healing of our family, neighbors and communities, and when we wonder what our lives will be like in the future. Where do we start, we sometimes wonder; how do we repair the breaches in our culture and in our world?

There are, of course, many ways to repair the breaches. No doubt, most of us have found one or more of the ways in the past year. The Mission Project between now and Easter is another way for us to rebuild and renovate, and that is to financially donate to One Great Hour of Sharing. (Presbyterian Special Offerings – One Great Hour of Sharing (pcusa.org)  This Special Offering of PCUSA is an ecumenical effort that provides financial support to programs that offer relief to some of the woes of our world, from hunger projects to addressing water shortages to helping those who’ve suffered from violence in their homes or communities, and much more. It is the single, largest way that Presbyterians come together every year to work for a better world.

Please join us in supporting the programs that do so much to alleviate suffering, that restore, rebuild and repair the breaches of our world. You may designate that your donation is for One Great Hour of Sharing one the memo line of a personal check or by enclosing cash in an envelope addressed to One Great Hour of Sharing, left in the church offering plate.

Thank you. God Bless!
