Rev. Mitchell Lee Miller was born in Norman, Oklahoma, but raised on his grandparents' farm in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Rev. Miller is a 1983 graduate of Solanco High School, and a 1987 graduate of Millersville University of Pennsylvania, where he received a Bachelor of Sciences degree in Education with certification in Secondary Education (Social Studies/History).
A life-long Presbyterian, Rev. Miller grew up in the Chestnut Level Church in Quarryville, Pennsylvania. His life in the church began with Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, which are his earliest memories. He was ordained an elder in 1987 and served as a youth leader and Sunday School teacher. In 1983, his involvement in the church began to accelerate, after he attended the Presbyterian Youth Triennium held at Purdue University. He has returned to the Triennium three times in leadership roles.
The years of lay service to the church led to his eventual call to ministry in 1990 when he entered Union Theological Seminary in Richmond, Virginia. "Unable to think of any more excuses, nor to escape God's un-yielding, ‘Hound of Heaven'-like pursuit; I succumbed to the reality that God was prepared to drag me, against my will if necessary, into the ministry," stated Rev. Miller.
During seminary, he served an internship for one summer in a small church in central West Virginia, and two years in a large church in Jamestown, North Carolina. But most importantly, it was while he was attending school in Richmond that he would meet his wife Leigh. He received his Master of Divinity (M.Div.) degree in 1995 from Union Theological Seminary and was ordained in 1995, Rev. Miller served as pastor of the Falling Waters Presbyterian Church, Hedgesville, West Virginia until February 1999. He then received a call from the Fallston Presbyterian Church in Fallston, Maryland where he has served as pastor for the past 10 years.
In addition to his responsibilities as pastor, Rev. Miller has served as a volunteer on-call chaplain and chair of the Spiritual Care Committee for the Upper Chesapeake Medical Center. Since 2004, he has served on the Baltimore Presbytery's Committee on Administration. He has developed strategies for new church development, redevelopment and evangelism. In addition, he has been involved in the planning and development of the LOGOS curriculum for Christian Education.
He has been involved in Cub Scouts for the past five years. Rev. Miller has served as an Assistant Den Leader, Pack Committee Chair, Cub Master, and a District Round Table Commissioner. He has been awarded the Celtic Cross award for Presbyterian Scouts and an outstanding unit scouter award.
Rev. Miller enjoys most outdoor activities and sports, as well as history. He is a certified Spiritual Director, experienced retreat/conference/small group leader, amateur balloon twister, and a Sooner fan. He has been married to his wife Leigh since 1995. Leigh is a native of Dallas, Texas and a graduate of the University of Texas (always making one Saturday in October a difficult day for someone in the Miller household) with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History. Leigh also holds a Masters in Christian Education from the Presbyterian School of Education in Richmond, Virginia. She loves the outdoors, plays guitar, and loves to sing.
Rev. Miller and Leigh have two children, Nathan (11) and Emma (8). Nathan will be entering the 6th grade in the fall, participates in Boy Scouts, enjoys tennis, indoor rock climbing, and raptors. Emma will be entering the 4th grade, plays piano, and enjoys Girl Scouts, soccer, and reading. Their family also includes two dogs, a cat, and a bearded dragon.
