February Mission Project – Urban Mission

Winter weather is great for warm soup, so we are collecting canned soup for Urban Mission’s Food Resource Center. Chicken noodle soup, chili, vegetable soup… if you like it, we will gladly accept your donation!  Bring it to the big basket on the Mission table near the kitchen.

CentsAbility has collected $30,357.04 since we began receiving this collection 9 years ago. Pretty amazing!  Last year (2018) we collected $2900.80. Thanks to everyone for their support of this project!

On the 4th Monday of every month, several of our members go to Urban Mission to volunteer in the Food Resource Center. This is a mission opportunity open to all and a great time for connecting with other members, UM staff and clients. If interested in going, contact Mitch Miller or Cindy Thomas. The group usually arrives at UM around 9:00 a.m. and remains until around noon.

Food boxtop labels are collected and sent to Goodland Academy which they use to purchase computers for the children in residence there. The Mission bulletin board has a display of the boxtop labels we collect. We no longer collect Labels for Education.

Join us the 4th Monday of the month!!

Men, women, and friends are going to meet at 9 a.m. at the Urban Mission just south of 39th and Portland on the 4th Monday of the month.   If you want to share a ride, please call the church office and let us know.  Besides helping them we have lot of fun!   Hope you can come!!

Volunteer in the New Year

Urban Mission is always in need of volunteers to help serve in their Food & Resource Center (FRC). Choose one day a week or bring a group of friends one day a month, any involvement makes a huge difference?

Stock the shelves in our FRC from 9:00 a.m.—12:00 pm Monday through Thursday. It takes a huge amount of work to prepare the FRC everyday. They offer non-perishable items, frozen and refrigerated foods, baked goods, and produce.

Assist families shopping for food in the FRC from 1:00 pm—4:00 pm Monday through Thursday.. Shoppers help clients bag items and tell them how many items they receive in the client-choice pantry.

Work the desk in the waiting room. Volunteers prepare papers for shoppers after they go through intake.

Urban Mission serves hundreds of families a month in the Food & Resource Center and UM needs help to make sure the families receive the groceries that their family needs.

Urban Mission Request

The Urban Mission is in need of reusable grocery bags for their clients to use to carry their groceries.   Please place your donations on the mission table across from the kitchen.
